About Us

DEVELOPMENT ACTION FOR WOMEN IN NEED (DAWN)

DAWN Society has been established in the year 1993 under Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860 with the initiative of its chief functionary Mrs. K. Ratna Kumari, a social activist.

Initially, the Organization was aimed at addressing the Gender issues with emphasis to the development of women. DAWN Society has been working for overall development of the community. One of the main objectives of the Organization is to render services to enhance public health especially among vulnerable groups and people living in acute poverty so as to empower them in health aspects. However, in its journey of 18 years, DAWN has not only took the Health mainstreaming aspects, but, the burning socio-economic issues like poverty, health, illiteracy, social oppression and lack of basic facilities to the people necessitated the intervention of DAWN. Mainstreaming on HIV/AIDS & Training

The training is aimed at awareness programs to the risk prone women and has identified 80 village resource persons. Total of 12220 people were covered under the awareness program, in which SHGs, YGs, FGs, YSSs and WSGs participated

Farmer Clubs

The main objective of the Farmers club is to achieve Agricultural Sustainability in the village and for the Individual Farmers.

Dalit Women Concerns women Workshop

The activity is to conduct workshop for the women NGO heads and women activists on project planning, implementation, budgeting, reporting and monitoring. Apart from that, the workshop was aimed at developing networking to address the issues of women across the state. Around 100 women headed NGO’s and Activists participated in the program.

Violence against Women

The activity has brought positive impact on the women in the target area and active women from the sensitized ones are now working as youth Change makers to bring change among society for women in need.

Program

Child labor Eradication Program

The program is implemented for five years in Krishna District, Andhra Pradesh. The objective of the project is to mainstream the “out of school children”, decrease child labor and ensure that stakeholders take the responsibility in children education, particularly “parents”. The project closely works with “School Management Committees” and sees

Adoption Program

The project is to track the identified “out of school children” and select them for the project, then ensures that the selected children are complete higher secondary and graduation, later being placed at jobs of both Government & private. After completion of the project, 33 children were excelled well and out of which, few got jobs and others pursuing higher education like engineering & other professional courses.

Women Empowerment Program

The program was implemented for seven years focused on dalit women to empower them in all aspects like institutional arrangements, financial inclusion, education, health and livelihoods. The project has targeted around 3000 women to improve their capacities through trainings, exposure visits, models and other IEC materials, which has developed confidence & self reliance to handle their issues.

Income Generation Program (IGP)

The program is to support the women engaged in livelihoods and micro enterprises, who are the members of Self Help Groups (SHG). During the project implementation, it has supported 370 women in establishing new income generation activities.
